In
1997, at the age of 23, Rene Garcia was elected to a two-year
term on the Hialeah City Council. He was re-elected, to
a four-year term in November 1999. While serving as a city
Councilman Rene Garcia graduated with a bachelor’s degree
in Political Science from Florida International University.
In December of 2004 Rep. Garcia graduated from the University
of Miami with a Master’s in Business Administration, specializing
in Health Administration and Policy.
In 2000, Representative
Rene Garcia was elected to the Florida House of Representatives.
He was re-elected consecutively in the 2002 and again in
2004 and has proven to be a highly skilled political leader.
In addition to serving as Chair of the Miami Dade Legislative
Delegation, Rep. Garcia was Chairman of the Health Services
Sub-Committee for the 2003-2004 Legislative Session and
was a Deputy Whip for the House of Representatives during
the same Legislative Session. Currently Rep. Garcia is Chairman
of the Florida House Health Care Regulation Committee for
the 2005-2006 Legislative Session. In addition Rep. Garcia
will also serves as a member of the Florida House Health
and Families, Health Care Appropriations, and Tourism Committees.
Representative
Garcia is also the Second Vice-President of the Kiwanis
Club of Flamingo- Hialeah. In that capacity, he serves a
vital role in the club by donating his time to the less
fortunate members of our community. Representative Garcia
also serves on many Executive Boards such as Hialeah Hospital,
Camillus House, Children Trust, and A Safe Haven for New
Borns.
